Historically significant 8x10 photo of N.Y. Giants pitcher Christy Mathewson (right), manager John McGraw (center), and pitching coach Wilbert Robinson, awaiting the start of the deciding final game of the 1912 World Series, in brand new Fenway Park in Boston on Oct. 16, 1912. (Note the vendor in the upper left corner, selling World Series pennants that read "Red Sox American League Champions", and "NY Giants National League Champions"). Mathewson was to be the starting pitcher this day, in the 8th, and deciding game of the 1912 series.(The only 8th game in WS history was needed, due to the fact that game 2 had ended in a tie). Mathewson would lose this final game 3-2 in the 10th inning, on the famous "Snodgrass muff", when Giants outfielder Fred Snodgrass dropped a routine fly, allowing two Red Sox runners to score in the bottom of the 10th, giving the game, and the Series to the Red Sox.Has outstanding detail, sharpness, and clarity. (So sharp that the words "Pureoxia Distilled Water" can be clearly read on the water bottle in the dugout)! On archival safe, acid free photo stock.
